What Uniten provide for their students..??

Hello and welcome to another installment of our weekly blog post (even though it's running late). UNITEN got its certification as a university not only because of the education and research being done daily here, it also has top notch facilities to support the community that lives, works, and play inside of UNITEN.

For education UNITEN have facilities ranging from science, electronics, and forensics labs to computer and CISCO labs that are up to date to facilitate the needs of students and lecturers alike.

Although all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy as saying goes, that is why UNITEN provides facilities that the community can use to let out stress by fast paced sports such as tennis or taking the time to unwind at the local pool. Other than the two place I just mentioned, UNITEN also has a track and field mini stadium and multiple sports fields that can be usedfor football, rugby, hockey or any other outdoor activities.

Then for food leisure, UNITEN offers Multiple food courts with at least one in each of the two main colleges. It also provides a hotel for any parents or family from afar to stay at if they wanted to visit anyone working or learning at UNITEN.

This weeks installment of post will have the posters write about their experience in using these facilities.

My childhood was always surrounded by bodies of water whether a river near my Grandma's house, a sea during vacation or a swimming pool where ever I found one. I was ecstatic when I found out that UNITEN has an Olympic size swimming pool as it means I have the freedom to dive deep and swim a longer distance like going to the sea without getting my eyes red because of salt water, painful painful salt water.

At first I thought since it was an Olympic sized swimming pool I had to pay the standard RM10 and above from my experience, I was pleasantly surprised when it costs me only RM1 to enter the pool on weekdays and RM2 for night and weekend sessions.  Of course the price is for students only, the general public (or to those who forgot to bring their ID's) have to pay at a flat rate of RM5.

The swimming pool has a set of separate access time for guys and girls to swim, but on Sunday there's an exception made for families that want to enjoy their time together at the pool.

Uniten is a big university and for those who don't have cars or motorcycle, getting through the university is a bit of hard task. Getting from the hostel to the college might takes hours of walking. So what did Uniten do to help the students? Uniten provides bus services for students' mobility within the university daily, and yes within the university itself.

3 different schedule are made available by Uniten; Monday to Thursday shuttle, Friday shuttle and weekend shuttle. As you can see from the picture above, there are 2 more outside station that Uniten's bus service go, The Mines and Commuter Station (Serdang). Everyone wants to go home, and by providing a stop to Commuter Station (Serdang), Uniten's bus service makes Uniten's student life easier. As for The Mines stop, Uniten realise that student alone does not bring success, they don't want their student to be a bookworm; interacting with social life also important in becoming a successful person. Hence The Mines route, it got almost everything a person needs; entertainment, shopping, food, and even groceries.

There are 2 route provided for student to use within the university. You can see it in the link below:

Dewan Seri Sarjana (DSS) also known as Multipurpose Hall in UNITEN, provides all sorts of facilities and purposes as the name suggests. Located on the highest point of UNITEN, it's the crowning glory of this institute.

Most of the facilities that DSS provide are  sports facilities such as a badminton court, a basketball court, located behind the hall, a swimming pool, a futsal area and many more. For those who are looking to get into shape or just to build some muscles, the gym is the place for you. DSS provides a fitness area complete with exercise bikes, treadmills, a rowing machine, weights and other various exercise machines to keep the individual fit and strong. The gym operates daily except on Saturdays. The schedule for the gym varies according to which gender are allowed on that particular day. On Sundays, the gym is open to all.

Many students come here during the evenings or right after class to get some exercise or to socialize at nearby cafe located inside the building.

Other than recreational activities, the DSS provides a huge open hall for formal or grand events such as convocations, wedding, or even important talks. Once the hall is lit up, it truly is a majestic sight to be seen as the atmosphere embraces your very soul.

For those with the musical or towards the performing arts in their hearts, the sports and cultural unit provides several facilities located inside the DSS itself. There are a jamming studio, a traditional instruments room, and also a dance studio.

So in short, not only UNITEN generates industrial professionals, it also produces athletes and also performing artists.

Masjid UNITEN is a place where every Muslims mostly come and gather around to perform Solat or prayer. It were build nicely on the lakeside area in Uniten itself. The place were build with the modern design of current mosque that come from the Middle East. Also resides the Center of Islamic Studies and Civilization or they called it as CICU. CICU is placed under the ground floor of the Masjid UNITEN. They provide tools and place such as kitchenware, halls, morgue and also lecturing class that open to all Uniten students and staffs. The mosque is currently use to held the Muslim every week prayer which is called "Friday Prayer", This is when every male Muslim that lives near there will gather in that mosque to perform the prayer. What I am trying to say is that the mosque is open to public but also the place for Uniten student to learn their Islamic subject and perform their daily prayers.

Once in a while which is always the mosque will organize a religious talk mainly for the student to attend, But then again the public can also attend to this talk as they please. The mosque is known for its size and architecture to some people. There are some people seek for guidance with the Staff that stationed there. For some cases, there are people that wanted their weddings to be held there for the joy of the lakeside view.

One of the main features of the mosque is where people can come and go there to pay their "Zakat". As Ramadhan month is around the corner, Muslim people have to pay their "Zakat" as a way to share their wealth with those who are in need. Sahabat Al-Quran ( SAQ ) is a club that has their own office at the mosque seemingly has many members that has joined the club for years and entirely supported by the CICU and mosque it self.

The picture on the left shows the classes where all the Muslim students go to. It only consist of 4 classes but it can hold up to 120 students at a time. For those who are tired for waiting there are 2 massage machine that can be use for public, but hey, its not for free; and all the money that is used for the machine will go straight to charity.

Lastly I would like to say that the mosque is one of the main facility that Uniten have provided not only for its students but also for its community.
