Hello and welcome again to UNITEN Unofficial Blog. In this week, the title topic given are "Accolades" will give out the chance to peek more about UNITEN achievements that they received for the passed few years before. This weeks topic will briefly introduce what are the awards that been rewarded for UNITEN as a proof for their excellency in a certain sector or area of business.

In recent years, UNITEN has push their performance to the edge in competing with other big universities and companies in the world and succeeded to score many achievement awards given by some respectful organizations. These achievements reflects the good side of UNITEN and proving that they were serious about their jobs, taking matter in professional way and also dealing with problems in the right way without having any extra hassle on the tasks. These good remarks were spotted by those who observing UNITEN's actions for a quite of time thus meeting to their needs and expectations, UNITEN gave out the their results of works exponentially outperforms any other competitors that competing with UNITEN.

Some of the UNITEN's Accolades were received locally either from the Malaysian's Government or even from Non Government Organization in Malaysia. Even proudly to say that there are number or awards that also come from the World which is an International level of awards that brings up UNITEN's name to fame in their organization or company leading to gain network in business and gaining trust mutually with UNITEN.

UNITEN has accumulated multiple awards and achievements. But as an I.T college student I would biased or ignorant if I talk about the achievement of my college.

 Last year on the 23rd of March 2011, UNITEN won the Brandlaureate 2010-2011 Best Brand in Tertiary Education - Engineering award for the Asia Pacific region which shows the amount of dedication that was put into ensuring the best education experience and outcome in terms of engineering education.

To best engineering universities both local and throughout the Asia Pacific region is an amazing achievement for UNITEN. Students in the engineering college can rest easy at night knowing what they learn and how they learn it is internationally recognized by something as grand as Brandlaureate.

Further more this fact will help them down the road when they are looking for work after they graduate, having learned at a Brandlaureate awarded university can help boost their resumé so they can stand out of the crowd of job seekers with the same degree.

UNITEN also proved they didn't solely rely on their 5-minutes of fame as they have won another award from  BrandLaureate in the awards ceremony 2011-2012 which is the award for the best brand in corporate branding, best brands in engineering. This awards puts them as one of the best name in engineering related education and it means they have the means to achieve this awards through projects like the solar powered car and aquareact that cultivate the students mind to be innovative.

Throughout the years, UNITEN has won a lot of accolades. During the year 2011, UNITEN has won a total of 5 awards compare 2 years before with got 3 in 2010 and 3 in 2009. What does this means? Well it means that UNITEN is getting better and more recognition incline with its target which "The continuous quest for national and global recognition of excellence".

From all the the awards that UNITEN have won, I would like to point out one award that is very important for you students have to know about. UNITEN has been awarded the Best Performing Organizations in the World of Education for the World Class Award(Highest) category on 18-20 September 2010 in Kathmandu, Nepal. This award was given during the 16th Asia Pacific Quality Organization(APQO)/ International Conference on Quality.

“We are pleased to announce that four organizations from Asia and the Pacific Rim are being recognized as exemplary companies of world class quality performance. They have achieved the International Asia Pacific Quality Award modeled after the U.S. Malcolm Baldrige Performance Excellence Award” said Charles Aubrey, Chairman of APQO and the International Asia Pacific Quality Award Executive Committee.

Whats APQO? APQO is a non-profit organization that serves as an umbrella group that brings together all of the leading quality professional societies from countries that border on the Pacific Ocean or are considered Asian / Pacific Rim nations. The governing body of APQO includes representatives from Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, and Vietnam. The award is sponsored by a foundation established by APQO called The Walter L. Hurd Foundation. Management direction for the award is provided by the International Asia Pacific Quality Award Executive Committee. 

More to said, with so many country governing APQO, UNITEN manages to won the award shows how improve UNITEN have become in the eyes of Asian and Pacific Rim. You as a student can proudly said that UNITEN is thriving for better education which is means more to you as someone who wants better learning experience. Having this award puts UNITEN in a higher level, as it shows that UNITEN provides quality education and can compete with other top university in the region.

Providing Excellence

In the years that UNITEN has been established, it has accumulated an astounding amount of distinguished awards that has made UNITEN a great varsity that it is today.

One of the most prized and prestigious award is the Prime Minister's Award for Industry Excellence that was achieved in 2009. To qualify for The Prime Minister's Award , the nominee is selected among the winners of certain categories which are Product Excellence Award, Quality Management Award, Export Excellence Award (Merchandise) , Export Excellence Award (Services), Brand Excellence Award (Merchandise) and Brand Excellence Award (Services – Professional and Non Professional). UNITEN was awarded the Quality Management Award and was therefore qualified to receive the Prime Minister's Award. The Industry Excellence is presented by the Malaysian External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE).

MATRADE's Industry Excellence is one of the prestigious as it involves in assisting foreign companies to source suppliers of Malaysian products and services.

As an incentive to this award, UNITEN was rewarded with some benefits which includes cash prizes and bragging rights.

UNITEN is the only academic institute that has received this award during that time of year, amongst other industrial organizations. 

So as a student of UNITEN, I'm proud to say that I'm studying at a world class institution with top notch education.

Trust in Performance

Luckily for those who join UNITEN, they will sure know about their university's accomplishment in various number of aspects. Either if they are employers or students of UNITEN, with the collections of accolades that UNITEN received in pass few years ago they will reap some of the benefits from it. One that most intriguing awards that UNITEN won is the The Platinum Category of the CQE Century International Quality ERA Award 2011 as a European recognition for their outstanding commitment to excellence in Quality approach. Let's go into deeper parts about this award.

The CQE Century International Quality ERA Award is given out by the Business Initiative Directions or B.I.D, which is a private organization in the world delivering Quality Awards as their main task and share the quality culture into leading companies worldwide. The organization established by number of engineers, physicists, mathematicians, economists, sociologists and journalists who share their idea of quality output in business models and activities. While Europeans are the pioneers of Engineering and Science, there be no wonders to begin with if they started an organization to deliver quality practises to improve today current technologies.

Thus, the Award itself are approved by all the great people mention before which makes it quite 'a must have ' award for companies to be rewarded for. There are ways of gaining the benefits from this award itself. Let's talk about having it in local business in our own country, Malaysia. With this award, it's quite clear that just for 2011, UNITEN has won a remarkable international level of award given by an European private organization which breaks the gap between other big universities and companies around Malaysia itself. Thus this will lead UNITEN graduates to obtain much higher job opportunity compared to others on that particular timeline. 

In the other part of the benefits relies on the worldwide acknowledgement given by the Europeans itself. With just having an award given to UNITEN that resides in Malaysia which is still an under-developing country, we can predict the future of having UNITEN graduates fly throughout the world, developing business and giving out more natural ideas for technology and science improvement for uses in next generations. Although that will take some years to accomplish it, the award is the key itself on letting our country a high privilege of priority in technology improvement.

Supporting to the text above, we can see that our current researchers around the world colliding their ideas and combining their forces to learn more about what so called now as "Particle Physics" research area. What the most interesting part is that the research centre is located same location as UNITEN got this award. Yes, its located in Geneva, Switzerland. The research organization is called as CERN. CERN is an acronym word as in French language, translated to English as European Organization for Nuclear Research. With the award that UNITEN got from B.I.D in Geneva, UNITEN accidentally mark their university name in that particular country thus opening the gateway of hope for UNITEN collaborating their workforce with CERN in the future. That will not serve as the benefits contribution to UNITEN students or employees itself, but to our own beloved country Malaysia.
